Take the City's Wayfinding Project Survey!

Community members can weigh in on their preferred Wayfinding signage style concepts until August 1, 2022.
Melrose Wayfinding Project Survey

The City of Melrose has launched a community-wide survey to gather public feedback around its Wayfinding & Creative Placemaking Initiative first launched in 2020 to improve wayfinding in Melrose and engage local artists to enhance the resident and visitor experience in the City. Take the survey!

Since then, the project has resulted in the implementation of many public art installations throughout Melrose such as murals, pavement markings, utility box art, alleyway and gateway enhancements, sculpture, lighting, and more.

The City is now preparing to launch the second phase of the initiative: finalizing the style design of traditional wayfinding elements such as signs and kiosks, selecting their locations, and fabricating and installing them throughout the City.

“We’re eager to hear from our community members as we finalize the design of wayfinding signage,” said Denise Gaffey, Melrose City Planner and Director for the Office of Planning and Community Development. “This signage will benefit our City in a variety of ways, making Melrose even more welcoming to visitors and new residents, connecting downtown with other business areas, and guiding pedestrians and cyclists to destinations they may not be aware of.”

For community members, completing the survey is an opportunity to provide feedback that is essential to the next phase of the project. Residents have until August 1 to take the brief survey, which asks participants to share their preferred signage style concepts and characteristics.

“I’m excited to continue what has so far been a successful initiative to enhance the resident and visitor experience in Melrose,” said Mayor Paul Brodeur. “Through this next phase, my administration hopes to further support our local businesses and increase awareness of local outdoor recreation activities and resources. We’re excited to see the results of the survey and the resulting impact our community will have on the development of our new signage, which will be installed in the coming months.”

As part of the design process, the City of Melrose will also receive help from consultants from Selbert Perkins Design, an international design firm specializing in the integration of Branding, Wayfinding, and Placemaking that drives economic success for their clients.
